This is a large 1 day ride or a casual 2 day ride from the 1451 people strong township of Walcha and on Dhanggati land. There are a number of day and multi day rides out of Walcha created by me which can be found at in the Ride With GPS Walcha collection here.
Start the day with a large coffee from the Fruit Shop, basking in the morning sun at the coffee window and watch the trade of a country town start to take shape; rolling cattle trucks, Land Cruiser parades, and tall cowboy hats on the busiest junction in the town.
If you would like more detail about resupply and points of interest on this route this can be found here. This is paid information and to find out a breakdown of how I create these routes you can find that here.
This large 1 day ride is a 35% tarred surface 75% graded gravel. Starting in Walcha with a large coffee from the Fruit Shop you travel west towards the road to Woolbrook. There is a river crossing as you cross the Macdonald River. Stop off at the small community of Woolbrook.
Prepare yourself for some sharp but short inclines with the reward of views over the Moonbi range and off the Northern Tablelands. Cruise down towards Niangala Road and cross over onto Enfield with a chance for another swim in the Macdonald River.
enjoy the crunch of gravel all the way to Thunderbolts Way. A few fast km of Thunderbolts way before turning off to Lakes Road. Make sure you take some time to ogle at the beautiful properties on either side of the road.
Cruise back to Walcha for a well earned drink and dine.
